Having Trouble with your Window Blinds? Here are 5 Ways to Adjust them

Blinds are an efficient and durable treatment for your windows. With minimum maintenance, window blinds offer great control for your windows. They let you adjust the light that gets into your house while offering you a great outside view. Window blinds also protect your house from the sun and provide you with the much-needed control of your privacy. But just like everything else, window blinds may not always work perfectly.

Since they come with internal mechanisms that offer many control options, window blinds are bound to develop issues. But this should not worry you – most of these issues can be fixed with ease and hardly require tools to do so. When installing window blinds, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the most common problems that window blinds experience and how to fix them without incurring repair costs.

Though you may be able to fix most minor window blind problems, some issues can only be fixed through a complete replacement of blinds. If you encounter such a problem, seek help from Window Blinds Gold Coast experts. To keep your blinds from getting spoilt, consider taking preventive measures such as dusting the blinds regularly, being careful when cleaning them and being gentle with the fabric. Here are the five most common blind problems and their solutions.

  • Slats that are not tilting well

Sometimes the slats on your window blinds may have difficulties tilting well. This means the slats themselves stop moving but the tilting rod continues to twist. When this happens, it means that the tilting rod may have shifted from its place. To solve this problem, you need to locate the metal rod and place it back to its place. Though this will depend on the style and type of window blinds that you’ve bought, you may have to remove your blinds from the window to locate the rod. When you find it, trace the tilt mechanism and push the tilt rod back into the tilt mechanism. Your window slat should now be able to tilt perfectly.

  • Blinds have difficulty raising or lowering

Your window blinds may roll up fine but have difficulty rolling down, or they may roll down fine but can’t roll-up. If you have a problem lowering them down, you need to level the lift cords with the headrail then release the cord lock by pulling them. If the cord lock does not release, insert a tiny pin in its mechanism. Use a flathead screwdriver or a knife to push the pin. If rolling them back up is the issue, it means that the mechanism has a lot of tension. To fix this, remove the blind from the bracket and use pliers to turn the pin on the side of your blind. Turn the pin until it stops moving. The tension on your blind is now adjusted. Return your blind to the bracket – it should now be able to work well.

  • Blinds roll up and down is too slow or too fast

Your blind might be too fast or too slow rolling up and down. This is a common problem that is easy to solve. If it is too slow, the most probable cause is a jam between the fabric and the tube. To fix this, you will need to lower the blind fully then remove the jam. With your hands on the tube, roll it up manually to half point. If your blind rolls too fast, it means that the fabric is too loose from the tube. Fix this by raising the blind fully and removing it from the bracket. Roll it down manually to half point and return the blind to the bracket. Your window blind has now been reset and should work normally.

  • Window slats are broken

If your window slats are broken, you will need to replace them. However, you do not need to perform a full replacement – you can replace the specific slat that is broken only. To do so, remove the blind from the window first. Next, remove the wand from the blind then remove the plastic cap or the metal end brace from the headrail. After that, remove the tilt rod from the wand tilter and replace it. Now snap the tilter back to its place and turn its shaft to line up the slats. Lastly, push the rod back through the tilter before you replace the cap or brace.

  • Stuck vertical blinds

Vertical blinds are commonly used to cover sliding glass doors. But these coverings can be troublesome if they fail to slide open. To fix this problem, ensure that your slats align well. Confirm that the ends are arranged uniformly and unlock any slats that may be tucked against each other. If this does not solve your problem, spray a small amount of silicone on the headrail or inside the track guiding your panel track blinds. Now work your blinds back and forth by fully opening and closing them. This will spread the silicone coating evenly. Your vertical window blinds should now be sliding with ease.
