How to Downsize Your Belongings before Moving?

“Do you know how to downsize your belongings before moving? If no, then kindly take a look at the article”.

When it comes to moving, there are a few crucial things that you need to do.

The first one is, of course, getting in touch with the best movers in Chicago so that half the battle is won! Apart from that, you have to call the utility companies, counsel your kids, etc.

And yes, how can you forget about downsizing. You have to understand that by downsizing, you will not only welcome a clutter-free house but would also be reducing the overall cost of the move. Why pay for things which you haven’t used in the past year? Don’t you think that if you liked them, you would have used them by now? If they are lying just like that, occupying a lot of space, then please downsize. It would be easier for your long distance movers Chicago as well.

Now downsizing can be tricky, especially if you are moving into a smaller house or apartment. You must be thinking about what should you do with all the extra stuff? No, you do not need to just trash them; you can either arrange a yard sale or donate them to people who actually need them.

So here are a few tips for you all.

Create an inventory

The first thing which you need to do is creating an inventory. You should know how much space is there to move into. Take a close inventory of your items. Also, make a checklist of the items which you can do without.

When people ask me for tips while moving to Chicago, I suggest them to make three lists. Number one is for the must have – the things which you can’t live without. Secondly, make a list of the items which you can eradicate. And the third and the trickiest list is of the items that you can sell and buy something to replace them, something smaller or something that would suit the aesthetic of the new house. Make sure that the inventory is detailed.

Time to declutter!

Now that you are done with the inventory part, it is time to declutter. Be systematic and give away the things that you don’t want in your new house or which are of no importance to you. Old books, appliances, clothes, et al are some of them.

Consider selling

Yes, you can, of course, donate a few items. But you can also keep some items for selling so that you can get some money for your move. You can arrange a yard sale or sell them off through online sites. Trust me; you can sell them at quite a decent price.

I am sure that there are many items lying in the cupboard, wardrobe and/or attic which you have kept just out of habit.

Make sure to get a solid storage place

Another thing which you have to pay heed to is getting a good storage space. This is another important step when it comes to downsizing.

Downsizing can be emotional but look at the brighter side! I hope that this article was enjoyable for you. To know more about Chicago movers cost, read my other articles and blogs.
