4 Ways to Use Concrete Treatments

Concrete can be used to make much more than simple gray slabs. Whether you are a business owner that wants to invest in concrete flooring or if you are looking for a home DIY project, this article can help to provide you with some creative ideas on how to use concrete treatments. Keep reading to get some inspiration about using concrete treatments for any project.

Flooring

One of the most common ways to use concrete treatments is to pour it and use it as flooring. This type of flooring works best when it is in a basement or the bottom floor of a building. This helps to set a stable foundation that can be easy to clean or put another flooring type on top of.

Did you know that not all concrete flooring is a boring flat gray color?Consider  convergent technologies custom concrete, you can find both normal concrete, as well as glosses that can go over it. This can help to make concrete floors look shiny or even add color to it. Some of the most artistic glosses can make the concrete look like other rocks, like granite. This can be an inexpensive way to get a ritzy looking floor.

Patios

Just like concrete treatments can be used for indoor flooring, it also makes for a great patio floor. Often time, patio spaces are either constructed out of wood or stones. Using concrete can make it more likely that you will have a level of flooring for your patio since using wood or other stones treatments can sometimes be uneven or have gaps.

If you like the look of a stone patio, you don’t have to go without just because you are using concrete as a base. There are many do-it-yourself articles and videos online that can teach anyone how to paint the concrete in such a way that it looks like other stones. This can be a creative and well-budgeted way to make your patio look decorative without needing to spend a lot of money on the project.

Countertops

Concrete treatments can also be used to create sturdy countertops or kitchen islands. To do this, you must first create a mold. It should have a solid bottom and sides. This mold can be made out of any sturdy and straight material, but wood, particleboard, or plastic are recommended. Make sure this mold is as close to the exact size that you want the countertop to be.

Once your mold is completed, it’s time to pour in the concrete. Once all the concrete is in the mold, make sure to smooth it out. The last thing you want is a bumpy counter. When everything is where you want it, leave the concrete to set for a while. The time it will take to harden will likely vary based on what brand of concrete you are using and the size of your mold.

When the concrete is dried, it’s time to put it in place. To attach the top to the counter, you can use a construction adhesive to make sure it sticks. It should be noted that you will likely need help from a friend or two (or three) to put the countertop in place, as it is likely to be heavy.

As with both the flooring and patio, the concrete countertop can be treated to look like other rock-based materials. Using epoxy to make the countertop look like it is made out of granite or similar rock is one way to make your countertops look more appealing. While doing this will take some elbow grease to get the job done, it is much less expensive than buying real granite countertops.

Walkways and Borders

Another outdoor project to experiment with when using concrete treatments is walkways. Whether you want to make a walkway that looks like a simple sidewalk or something more creative and complex, a concrete treatment is a great place to begin.

When making a walkway, or a border for an existing walkway or landscaping area, it’s best to make a mold to use to create the edges of the concrete treatment. Unlike the molds used to make the countertop, you don’t need to have a bottom to the mold– just the sides. Then, simply pour the concrete in. Once it’s dried, you can paint or add epoxy to make it more creative.

It’s clear to see that concrete can be used for much more than making plain gray slabs. The next time you want to do a home or business do-it-yourself project, consider using concrete. With enough creativity and patience, you can make it look great.
