5 Important Covers You Will Get Under Comprehensive Bike Insurance

If you have bought a new bike or do not have any bike insurance for the one you already own, then this is the right time to do so. An insurance policy for your two-wheeler will save you a lot of money in case of any accident or other mishaps. Every respectable insurance provider in India offers comprehensive insurance covers for your bike. There are mainly two kinds of two-wheeler insurance policies available in India, comprehensive and liability. The first kind offers a wider range of covers.

Here is a list of the five covers you must know about:

  1. Third-party liability

The third-party liability cover is the mandatory cover offered in a comprehensive two-wheeler insurance policy. Under the third-party insurance for bike, any of your financial liabilities caused by an accident involving your bike is taken care of by the insurer. If your bike damages any property, including a vehicle, of any other person then the cost repairing it is covered under the insurance policy. In case of any third party injury or death, the approval of claim depends on the motor accidents court’s judgment.

  1. Damages caused to your bike by natural disasters

Any damages done to your bike due to natural causes are covered by the bike insurance you have bought. The forms of natural causes that fall under this cover are flood, earthquake, storm, lightning, hurricane, and other disasters. The insurer pays the cost of repairing.

  1.  Damages caused by man-made calamities

The comprehensive policy also covers the cost required to repair the damages that are man-made causes. The causes covered under the comprehensive two-wheeler insurance are theft, fire, explosion, and burglary. The insurance cover also includes any damages suffered during road, water, air, or other transit.

  1.  Personal accident

The comprehensive two-wheeler insurance cover includes personal accidents too. In case the policyholder would become permanently disabled or die in an accident while driving the insured bike, the insurance provider will pay the lump sum of money to the family of the insured. In case of disability, 25% to the entirety of the sum assured is paid to the policyholder. When it comes to disability, the amount payable depends on the type and severity of the disability. In case of death, the insurer pays 100% of the sum assured to the nominee. This works as the default cover for the policyholder only. The person riding with the insured is not included in the policy. However, an add-on policy can be taken with the main comprehensive policy to get them covered too.

  1.  Add-ons

You can always avail of add-on covers with your existing comprehensive cover. These add-ons have separate premiums that are added to the one you already pay for the two-wheeler policy. Some of the most common add-on covers are:

  • Roadside bike breakdown assistance cover
  • Personal accident cover for a co-passenger/pillion rider
  • No Claim Bonus (NCB) protect cover under which your bonus is protected even if make an NCB claim
  • No depreciation cover, which ignores the devaluation of your bike due to aging

Before you buy a comprehensive insurance cover for your bike, do not forget to compare two-wheeler insurance quotes of different insurance companies to find the best possible deals.
