Tips for Staying Safe on The Job This Summer

This one is for all the men and women out there who have a spouse who works a dangerous job. My husband spends a lot of time in precarious situations, and I worry about him. Here are some tips to keep them safe this Summer.

I’m the kind of guy who loves working with my hands and being outside. This being said, I have found myself in some pretty dangerous jobs during my day. It is important for me to stay safe on the job, but there are many times that I just don’t think about it. However, this summer, I am going to take the time to learn how to stay safe on the job.

Make sure you invest in the proper safety equipment

One thing that many workers on the job don’t think about is proper safety equipment. This is very true when I’m on many of my jobs. I have seen many of my friends get hurt on the job simply by not having the right safety equipment. The small investment of a hard hat has helped me from falling debris time and time again.

Don’t take too many unnecessary risks

While you want to get a lot of things done in a short amount of time, you need to make sure that you are only taking calculated risks that you can be sure will not result in serious injuries. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You need to only take the risks that you know will pay off in the end without getting you hurt.

Protect yourself from the sun

Getting a sunburn is something that happens to me on a regular basis. I can be so forgetful when it comes to sunscreen but I really end up paying the price later on when I get a killer sunburn. It is important to apply sunscreen before any long outdoor job during the heat of the summer. One thing I also had to learn the hard way was that I need to reapply sunscreen every four hours.

Understand what to do when an injury does take place at work

While you will always try to avoid injuries at work, they are going to happen from time to time. I have a hard time remembering what to do when that does happen. That is why it is so important to find a manager or a coworker who can help you as soon as an injury takes place. If you have someone else helping you, you will have all of the documentation you need to file for worker’s comp. If nobody reports the injury, it will be very hard to get any sort of worker’s compensation. Even if you do have all of the proper documentation, companies can sometimes not want to give you the compensation you deserve. This is when you have to start searching for the best workers comp attorney Utah has to offer. With the right representation, you will be able to get the compensation you deserve for your injury that took place on the job.

Always do dangerous jobs with a partner

Even when I want to get dangerous jobs done quickly, I always make sure that I have a partner with me. This way, I can get out of a sticky situation quickly. For example, there was one time where a heavy metal door fell on me during a construction job. I needed my partner to lift it off of me or I could have possibly stopped breathing. It is so important to bring a partner with you on dangerous jobs. You could seriously owe your life to your partner. Make sure that you have a good solid connection with your partner. This will give you the ability to work on your job without having to worry too much. Not having to be afraid of a dangerous situation will give you the confidence you need to get jobs done quickly and effectively.

I have found that staying safe on the job is always the way to go. If you can be safe, you will really avoid a lot of hardship this summer. By following a few simple rules, you will be able to stay employed, not get injured, and have a much happier life.
