Security Camera Installations: The Perfect View

Security and safety are, and always should be, the top priorities when you’re looking into security camera installations. As security options become more technologically advanced, so have the ways you can do a security camera install.

Whether you’re looking to have concealed cameras or visible ones, or even both, it’s vital to have your security cameras installed properly. Similar to TV mount installations or having TVs installed onto your wall, there’s endless options when it comes to having security cameras installed on your property.

When installing security cameras at your home, or office, the first thing you want to consider is if the camera will be visible or not. With visible cameras, the mounting process is simple and easy. Bringing professional installers makes sure your cameras and accessories like motion detectors are installed correctly and don’t fall or move from harsh winds, animals and other unexpected things.

Just the presence of a security camera or system outside your home or office can decrease the likelihood of theft and crime. They significantly defer these types of suspicious activities. Whether you choose to have visible or stealthy hidden cameras, security camera installation can help monitor activity around your home and business, can defer theft and crime, reduce crime rates, help police, reduce insurance costs and create overall safer spaces.

When you’re thinking about where to have your security cameras installed, one might consider the places intruders or unwelcome guests might appear. One great option is simply having one by your door. These small security measures can help identify who is at your door. A camera at your main entrance can keep a tab on everyone that comes both in and out of your home, including family members and babysitters, maintenance people, delivery people and more.

Another common option is side or backdoor areas. Doors and entrances that are a little out of sight are a great place to install a security camera, as this can detect unwelcome guests as well.

Garages and driveways can also be good places to have security cameras installed. Maybe you keep a bike in your garage, or expensive supplies, a camera sitting atop your garage can easily capture any unwelcome people on your private property. Same goes for your driveway. When you keep a valuable object in plain sight, like a car, you want to make sure you can keep an eye on it. Great for capturing hit and runs or just plain nosy people who want to take a snoop around somewhere they shouldn’t be.

With all the available spaces a security camera can be mounted, it’s important to remember that there are places you can’t install a security camera. Anywhere that violates someone’s privacy, like a neighbor’s yard, can’t have any sort of security camera installed.

Tips for security camera installation:

·         Always install the security cameras 8-11 feet off the ground (unless it’s a ring security camera). At eight feet, the security camera is low enough that it can capture fine details like faces and at eleven feet, it’s high enough that it’s out of reach from being grabbed.

·         Avoid pointing the security camera directly at the sun. Not only can a bright light cause a glare, it can give a high contrast to your footage. Both glare and high contrast make it difficult to see what the camera has captured. Note where the sun directly hits when installing and try to aim for indirect light.

·         Decide if you want your security cameras to be visible, hidden or both. Visible cameras effectively deter crime and can even help the police in many cases of theft, but they can also be easy targets for vandalisation and camera theft (unless it’s out of reach). Out of sight cameras might provide footage with an obscured view, but oftentimes hidden cameras capture burglars at their most vulnerable.

·         Make sure the cameras are installed properly. You don’t want a heavy gust to knock down your equipment.

·         Protect the camera. Many outdoor security cameras already come weather proofed so they can handle nature’s elements like rain and wind. If your security camera doesn’t, consider the climate you live in and place cameras accordingly in semi-protected areas.
