How to Decorate an Apartment That Represents Your Personality

If you have a well-decorated apartment that you no longer appreciate, it’s time for a redo. No one likes coming home to an apartment that doesn’t make them feel at home!

You want to be so in love with your home that you can’t bear to leave it!

Initially, you might have gone with the popular decorative trends. At the time — it was exciting! But now, you wish you would have gone with something that better fits your personality.

The good news is you don’t have to stick with a bland apartment full of decorations you dislike any longer.

It’s always possible to add elements that represent the incredible person you are!

Here are five ways to start creating a dazzling space that reflects your personality.

1. Take Stock of Current Elements

Are you sick of everything you see? Hold on a second! Before ditching all the decorations, take a long hard look at everything.

Chances are there are still some elements you like. If you attempt to replace everything now, it could get expensive!

You may have some family photos you adore, but they’re outdated. If that’s true, get current ones instead. Keep the frames, and swap out the images.

As for other decorations, try to incorporate existing pieces with some new elements.

For example, if you already have a globe, try placing it next to some new travel books that are more your style.

Furniture is something you can quickly move around in your apartment. So, don’t buy new furniture unless it’s necessary.

Get creative and try something new, such as placing a sofa chair from the living room into your bedroom. Putting together a nice reading nook will make your bedroom cozy and warm.

There are many ways to revamp your space, so see if everything blends. You’re bound to set up interiors that better represent your personality.

2. Infuse Your Interests

While dreaming of your ideal space, keep your interests at the forefront of your mind. There are many ways you can infuse your hobbies in your apartment.

Here are a few ways to personalize your space:

  • If you recently went on a vacation, hang up a favorite photo from your trip.

  • If you ride horses, display a horse figurine with other equestrian decorations.

  • If you’re an avid fisherman, hang a rod and other fishing elements to create the perfect outdoor escape.

Think of other ways to add decorative elements of items you enjoy to create an apartment you adore.

3. Decide on a Color Palette

An excellent place to start when you begin to redecorate is by deciding on a color scheme.

You know what your favorite colors are, so use them to guide you.

Turquoise may be one of your preferred colors. Create a desert vibe with shades of orange, yellow, and turquoise in a bedroom. The colors combined with desert centered elements will steal the show!

Another idea is to combine a neon color with a lighter shade. So, you could select decorative elements in a neon yellow. Pair your neon yellow decorations with a few lavender items. Combining these two colors will no doubt make a statement!

Do you have one too many favorite colors? Then try different combinations together on a design board before committing.

Seeing things visually will help you decide which color schemes you prefer.

4. Be Selective

Infusing your apartment with your favorite elements is one thing, but don’t go overboard.

You may have so many interests; it’s hard to know where to start. Before going crazy with decorations, make a list of what you’d like to see in your apartment.

Based on how long the list is, start weeding it down. Limit yourself to only a certain number of decorations so that your apartment won’t be too busy looking. Pretty soon, you’ll end up with elements you can’t live without.

Keeping a list of the elements you plan to keep and buy will steer you in the right direction.

Also, consider creating a board on Pinterest or use an app to keep track of the elements you have. Hey, whatever it takes to keep you organized and develop a place you love!

Be thoughtful of which decorations and furniture you select.  With your careful planning, everything will come together perfectly.

5. Think Long Term

The whole reason you got sick of the old decorative theme in your apartment is that you went with what was in style.

Even if you have trendy common interests now, that could change.

Stick with items and furniture you know you’ll love for the long term.

The last thing you want to do is spend a small fortune redecorating again in another couple of years!

If you’re unsure how to stop changing your mind, think about what you’ve loved for a long time.

Say you grew up taking ballet and still practice it. If that’s the case, chances are you’re going to continue to love ballet.

Decorate your apartment with ballet-themed items. A few ideas are ballet slippers and a framed photo of a famous ballerina.

It’ll be hard to get tired of looking at something you’re passionate about in life!

In Conclusion

Coming up with an apartment that’s more your style is going to be a lot of fun.

You get to call the shots and instill pieces of you within every living space. Imagine the type of rooms you’ll come up with within your home!

If you end up questioning yourself on whether you’ll like something later, take a breather. Nothing is set in stone, but you should be more confident this time around.

Stay true to yourself while planning what your new and improved apartment will look like. You’re going to craft an incredible apartment with happiness around every corner!
