Digital marketing is crucial to your business, which can help with your online presence. However, not many companies actually have a clearly-defined digital marketing strategy! Don’t be one of the unprepared companies and be ahead of the game by looking into creating a digital marketing strategy with the proper tactics and tools to market your business successfully online.

But where do you start?

Read on as I show you how to improve online marketing performance with these key areas of digital marketing to focus on!

Digital Marketing: Key Areas to Focus On

When approaching a digital marketing plan or strategy, you need to base it on your business’ individual goals. However, there are major things to keep in mind, which can help build the path to success. Here are the following key areas to look into:

  1. Realistic Framework

Before you even begin creating digital marketing strategies, you need to have a plan. There are various ways you can do so, from content mapping, creating timelines, or editorial calendars. Fortunately, there are a lot of tools to get you started as you manage and plan content.

As you create a plan, make sure you establish various ideal and realistic outcomes while leaving room for uncertainty. You should do this based on key performance indicators (KPIs), which need to be related with your goals and strategy. When you don’t have a set of metrics to base the strategy on, you’ll most likely go off track, not making it to the end goal.

Furthermore, as you create your framework and plan, make sure the process behind it stays as simplified as possible for communication and delegation. Also, establish a clear timeframe so your entire team remains focused.

  1. Appropriate KPIs

How will your business and strategy set goals? As mentioned, you need to have the right metrics to put your focus on so you understand how to get (and how you got) the end results.

This is where selecting the right KPIs(ones closely representing the business’ and strategy’s key target areas) will help keep you on target, understanding what marketing actions are working and the ones that require improvement.

When selecting the KPIs to use, consider the following:

How is the KPI related to your goals?

       What will you measure?

Is what you measure related to user experience and how?

How much is needed to monitor and report on metrics and is this included in the plan?

As you set up your KPIs properly, remember that while it is data, it is also the human experience. This is important to think of when setting up the proper digital marketing strategy. View the traffic as numbers AND as humans, garnering numbers that tell stories on what your customers and visitors are doing, then using the data to improve your future strategies.

Remember, human behavior is what really affects your return of investment, so approach your digital marketing efforts towards the User Experience’s (UX) point of view.

  1. The Funnel

For those who have been in the traditional marketing field or business, backgroundsare already familiar with the concept of the sales funnel. This is the outline of every phase throughout a buyer’s journey. Usually, the outline goes like this:

Outreach through ads, landing pages, content marketing, infographics, etc.

Conversion from social media, blog posts, quizzes, case studies

Closing through reviews, questionnaires, email series

Retention through emails, contests, surveys, exclusive offers

The top of the sales funnel is where brand awareness, engagement, and outreach happen, which will be the key to capture new traffic and reengage repeat traffic. Since the top of the sales funnel is where the marketing happens, it needs to be engaging and focused on building a relationship, then creating the sale.

Good digital marketing specialists should know how to bring customers through each phase of the sales funnel and receive high conversion rates. But do note that this takes practice and time, so don’t panic if you don’t get the results you wanted just yet! Keep on practicing and improving on what you’re currently doing.

  1. Your Content

Content isn’t just about creating awesome blogs and social media ads. The possibilities of content is endless, and you can be creative with it. That’s why you have to be updated with technology and the latest tactics to capture your audience’s attention.

And one of the best ways to create engagement is to tell a story, which is why your strategy should focus on creating an effective ad campaign that’s high in quality and with value.

Do this by building core ads and service offerings, then create content with compelling calls to action which leads users towards your end goal, usually to purchase something. Just make sure that what you offer and create is relevant, relatable, and useful to the target audience.

Furthermore, understand how your content performs in terms of user experience, SEO, and through analytics patterns.
