Five tips on how to reduce your businesses energy bills

When it comes to owning a business, overheads are always a concern and reducing them any way you can is something you should always be looking to do. Which is where reducing your energy bills comes in as it is something that you can probably manage a lot more than you currently are. Following these five tips should give you a great baseline to begin to save money on your business’s energy bills.

Replace your incandescent bulbs

Replacing your old incandescent lightbulbs with Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs is a great start. While LED bulbs are more expensive than regular incandescent bulbs, in the long run, you will see a return on your initial investment with the savings on your energy bills. While a standard incandescent bulb has an average lifespan of 1,200 hours an LED bulb lasts almost 20x this with an average lifespan of 25,000 hours meaning that with an LED you will only need to change your bulbs around every two years. As well as this they have a lower average yearly cost than a standard incandescent bulb, which means you will be saving even more money each year.

Change your businesses heating system

While it does have a large upfront cost, changing your businesses heating system to a more modern updated system is a great way to begin saving some money on those heating bills in the long run. Just like with your home, using an old heating system means that your heating system will be inefficient and will mean that you will lose a large percentage of energy produced which in turn means a lot of money wasted. When it comes to choosing a new boiler it is best, to begin with, researching what type of boiler your business is currently using so that you can purchase an upgraded model to this. After you’ve done this you’ll be on the lookout for boiler brands, there are many out there but some of the highest-rated to keep an eye out for are Ideal Boilers, Worcester Bosch, Heatline Boilers and Vaillant Boilers. Just make sure you take into account the new boiler cost and make sure it fits your budget.

Turn off computers

While it sounds like such an easy thing to do, forgetting to turn your computer off at the end of the day is something everyone one is guilty of at some point. Just like at your devices at home, leaving devices on in the office can be a real drain on your energy bills through the year as these devices are still using energy despite not being on. So just putting some signs up and reminded your employees to totally turn off and unplug their devices at the end of the working day could be saving you some great money on your bills each year.

Turn down your offices central heating

Turning down the thermostat in the office is a great way to save just that little bit extra each year. Turning down the thermostat in your office is just the same as turning it down at home to save some money. For example, turning down your thermostat by around one degree can save you around £70 a year in your home which for a home is great a great saving. But if you magnify this to the scale of your businesses office you could be saving potentially over £100 each year on your business’s energy bills.

Consider switching providers

And finally, switching energy providers. Just like you would compare energy providers with your home you can also do that as a great way to reduce costs for your business. Switching providers for your business could be saving you up to as much as 50% on your annual energy bills.

Following these five steps is a great way to begin saving energy on your business’s energy bills each year!
