Below are the 8 reasons why your wall paints don’t last:

This will be grouped into two viz; exterior and interior conditions affecting your wall paint not to last long.

Interior Conditions

Types of Paint Used

It is not in the color of your choice alone that matters for your paintwork but the type of paint to be used. Is it an oil-based paint or latex paint? An oil-based paint works better on some surfaces than others. While hi-gloss sheen may be best for your living room with its shine and all it is not cool to use the same in the bath which needs more cleaning and all.

So you should consider the projects at hand and must relatively choose your paint quality on the requirements needed for the work.

Not Doing Prep Work

Prep work is more important than the actual painting itself. You can’t paint on rough surfaces, dirty walls and except paints to last on the same.

Likewise, you should endeavor to repair damaged areas as soon as noticed. Repaint chipped area or bloating area with fresh paint. And check for water leaks regularly.

Not Cleaning The Walls

Stains and dirt constitute the major reason why your paint doesn’t last. In areas of high usage (kitchen and bathrooms), you should ensure you don’t allow grime to accumulate much before cleaning.

Wash the wall regularly with abrasive soap and water solution using a microfiber cloth or sponge.

Exposure To Sunlight

UV light and extreme sunlight pose a greater tendency for paints to fade. You can avoid this by protective window blinds which will reduce the direct penetration of sunlight.

Exterior Conditions

Lack of Preparation

While you might be in a rush to finish the paintwork due to a deadline thus neglecting in that stead to do the proper prep work. You run the risk of your paint not lasting on your wall.

You must scrap and remove all loose or peeling, wash and allow the surfaces to dry before applying the paint. And also apply primer coat for moisture penetration.

Use Quality Paint

For what it seems, always use High-quality paint for your wall. It might seem expensive and out of your pocket but it is cost-effective in the long run. A high-quality paint will ensure you don’t waste money on recurring repair work. Paint sticks to the wall. Long-lasting and easy to clean and maintain.

Not Considering Your Location

One big mistake most painters or you as a DIY painter make is not considering the climatic conditions of your region for paintwork.

Humidity, sunlight exposure, harsh weather, moisture are contributing factors as to why your paint doesn’t last long on walls resulting in peeling, chipping, and bloating.

To avoid this, use paints that are made for severe weather conditions.

Not Considering What You Are Painting

Most people do the mistake of regarding all surfaces as the same. Depending on the material you’re painting on, be it wood or brick, you should know that there are paints that work better on both. That as well doesn’t preclude the fact that it takes a brick wall longer time to fade than a wood wall.

Essentially it is just the adhesion of the surface and the conditions of such surface.
