The constant global warming changes has certainly twisted and turned the weather. Throughout the country, heat waves tend to overwhelm people and impede them from their everyday obligations. And work obligations for that matter. When at the cramped and crowded office, it is hard to chill out and get some quality work done. If the weather is especially sunny and hot, high temperatures can make you feel nervous and agitated. In order to get some lucrative work done and keep your sanity on a hot summer day, here are some ways to cool down when at work.
Let the cool air in during the night
Even if this seems quite impossible, summer night can be rather chilly and refreshing. If you were to open the windows during nightfall, you will be in for a real treat when you come to work the next day. Opening the windows later in the evening, when the air is cooler, can naturally cool your office oasis. If somebody is working long hours or has left the office later then usually, ask him or her to open the window wide. Of course, don’t leave the window open if you are on a ground floor, or you will welcome an empty office in the morning.
Dress light
It can be hard to avoid the sauna-feeling in an office during hot summer days, but one of the easiest solutions is to dress appropriately. Choosing the right summer outfit for your job in the summer can be a tricky and tedious task. Not only do you have to worry about looking smart and elegant, but it can be hard to select appropriate clothes and not reveal too much flesh. It would be ideal for men to come in regular t-shirts, and for women in shirt, light dresses. Since that is not utterly possible, try to wear clothes with light and comfortable fabrics and materials. Think linen suits and dresses, or short-sleeved cotton shirts. And pick colors that repel the sun like white or bright yellow or pink.
Get sun-repelling awnings
Keeping the curtain and blinds down at all times can be really counterproductive. Artificial light like office light can negatively affect your productivity and mood, unlike the natural sunlight. It is advisable to make the room as dim as possible on a hot summer day, but you also want to be able to see the papers. The smart option would be to install stylish and multifunctional window awnings which keep the sun off, reduce heat, but still give you sufficient light enabling you to work. The goal is to shade the windows but have enough essential natural light to work comfortably.
Use air-conditioning smartly
All system that cool air is good if used properly. It is not smart to keep your air-conditioning on extremely cold temperature on a hot summer day or to keep it on at all times. Even if this is the fastest cooling solution out there, it is not the most economical. These appliances can be rather costly, especially if they are running on the whole day. Plus, there can be many downturns, people won’t have the sense of the weather outside, and once they step out of the building can even suffer from the heatwave. If you wish to have it on at all times, make sure that the difference is up to 8 degrees.
Stay hydrated
As mundane tip as it may sound, but unless you are properly hydrated in your office, the summer heat can impact on your health severely. Don’t let your stuff dehydrate when at work, and always keep a large water cooler bottle in their proximity. What is more, advise your employees to drink plenty of water during work, in that way they will stay refreshed and cool even if it is boiling outside. The hotter it is outside, the more you sweat, and you automatically need more fluids to fight off dehydration. Furthermore, keep a bottle of cold water always by your side.
Make a mini handy fan
As a child, you have certainly made a paper fan, and no matter how childish that might sound, paper fans are useful. In an office, you are surely surrounded by papers, so it can be a handy solution on a boiling summer day to make a simple DIY paper fan. If crafty things are not your cup of tea, you can resort to other things. Fill a cup with ice or crushed ice and breath into it. Yes, this will be your very own personal AC. As the hot air from your breath escapes upwards, with this DIY cooling system your breath will be cooled down. Later you can drink that icy water.
Turn off major appliances
Computer, printer, and coffee maker are a must in a busy working environment, but if a TV used solely for presentations is not obligatory or numerous office lights, turn them off. Many electrical appliances generate excessive energy, which exudes heat on a hot day. By turning them off, you will immediately create a much cooler environment.
Maybe the best solution on a hot summer day is to skip work and go to the beach. If that is not possible, these tips will keep you fresh and cooled in the office.
