Summer is the time for shorts, tank tops and swimsuits, and everyone wants to have the best figure possible for outdoor activities. Whether you prefer lounging by the beach, jet skiing or something in between, these five recommendations can help you shed weight and tone your figure for summertime.
1. Play Sports
Sports are a fantastic way to exercise while still socializing and having fun. However, if you are not a fan of team sports, there are still plenty of options for you. Running, tennis, archery and karate are all sports that provide a great workout without you having to interact with teammates.
If you are more extroverted, sign up for a team sport. Many cities offer adult sports leagues, such as volleyball, baseball and football. Keep in mind some sports, such as softball, will require you to bring your own equipment to games, like softball gloves or helmets.
2. Go to a Gym
The gym is another great way to get in shape for summer. If you prefer the classic weights and cardio, a basic gym membership will serve you well. Many of these gyms offer personal training for an additional fee. While you pay more, you have the advantage of a professional coaching you and helping you reach your weight loss goals.
If you like having a professional assist but cannot afford the extra cost, find a gym that offers classes. Most fitness centers include classes in their memberships or at a significantly lower rate than one-on-one personal training. You get the advantage of having an instructor lead you through your workouts and provide fitness tips without the high price tag.
Many gyms nowadays specialize in one specific type of exercise, such as kickboxing, yoga or aerial fitness. If you have a passion for one of these workouts, find a gym that specializes in it. All the workers have an in-depth knowledge of the exercises and how you can improve since that activity is all the gym focuses on.
3. Get Sleep
Even though you are not moving, sleep is an essential piece of physical fitness. Without it, you cannot have the energy or stamina to complete your workouts. Plus your body needs time to rest and recover.
Do your best to go to bed at the same time every night, including weekends. This creates a routine for your body and makes it easier to fall asleep each night.
Turn off all electronics at least an hour before bedtime, including phones, tablets, televisions and computers. The bright light from the screen stimulates your brain, making it difficult for it to shut down and let you go to sleep.
4. Eat a Nutritional Diet
You can work out every day but if you have a poor diet, you will struggle to drop any extra weight. While there is nothing wrong with occasional treats throughout the week, they should not be the primary portion of your diet.
Your meals should include fruits, vegetables and proteins, with fats or carbs for energy. Depending on how active you are, you may need a higher intake of fat or carbs. However, these should not be the biggest portion on your plate at every meal.
If you are short on time, consider investing in a meal subscription program, such as Hello Fresh or Blue Apron. You pick meals ahead of time and the company delivers the ingredients to your door. All you have to do is cook it. This way, you have healthy well-rounded meals ready to prepare without all the effort of grocery shopping.
5. Stay Hydrated
Finally, keep your body hydrated throughout the day. A lack of water can cause your body to shut down, making it difficult to go about your day, let alone exercise. Drink at least two to three liters of water a day, more if you are active.
If you want to trim down and tone up for summertime, incorporate these five recommendations into your routine.
