Understanding the Ingredients of Brow and Lash Growth Serums

Defined eyebrows work wonders for the face. They frame the eyes and draw attention to the forehead. People who don’t have deep eyebrows often look for an eyebrow growth serum that will work. There are just too many useless products available in the market. What’s worse is that some even make the eyebrows fall out. With a little research, anybody can figure out which product to buy.

Types of Brow Growth Serums Available

There are three primary types of the brow or lash growth serums available in the market. The categories are made according to the active ingredients in the product.

1] Peptide Serums

A peptide-based serum is hormone-free. The proteins in peptide serums boost hair growth. It increases the growth cycle of each hair follicle. This means each lash or brow will grow longer and fall off much later than normal. This serum goes into the follicles to give rise to strong strands. Some peptide serums are slow-release, so they can influence the follicles throughout all the stages of growth of each lash or brow.

Peptide-based serums usually include Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, or Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17. These are the primary active ingredients in peptide serums. Other ingredients might include some kind of moisturizing or conditioning agents. Hydrolyzed soy protein, Niacinamide B3, and Biotin B7 are some safe ingredients.

2] Botanical Serums

Plant-based serums contain allantoin or lactic acid. Lactic acid comes from animal milk, and allantoin comes from uric acid. It is okay for the skin and brows, but people who prefer purely plant-based products need to look out for these ingredients. If a product that contains these ingredients claim to be vegan then these ingredients are synthesized in a lab.

  • Contrary to popular belief, plant-based products are not necessarily better for the skin. Sensitive skin is more prone to allergies from botanical ingredients.
  • These natural products also have a short lifespan because harsh chemical stabilizers are not used.
  • Also, there are no added chemical catalysts to make the product more efficient.

Botanical eyebrow growth serum is only good for people who don’t have sensitive skin or allergies. It is okay for people who don’t need to see a huge difference in the brows or lashes. And it is okay for people who use the product regularly or don’t mind letting some expire.

3] Prostaglandin and Analog Serums

These compounds act like hormone boosters and are banned in various countries. Some countries have them available on prescription from a certified cosmetologist. The effect of these serums is not permanent. This ingredient is not recommended.

The key ingredients to look for in such serums are bimatoprost, Isopropyl cloprostenol, Ethylcloprostenolamide, Dihydroxy-cyclopentyl-heptanoate, and their variants.

Conclusion

A peptide-based serum is the best eyebrow growth serum. Botanical serums are okay for those who don’t get allergies from them. Prostaglandin or analogue serums are the red flags one must avoid. That’s all one needs to remember while buying a lash or brow growth serum.
