How to Prepare for AMC?

Have you ever wondered what exactly is required to represent America at the American Mathematics Competition? Or maybe being proficient in mathematics you are looking for opportunities outside the classroom. Here you will get apprised of what it takes to qualify the AMC Math Competition, AMC 10 and AMC 12?

In order to prepare for competitions like AMC 10 & 12, you need to understand the concepts well. Doing problem after problem won’t help you; rather you need to focus on mastering your concepts. An in-depth understanding approach should be followed, so that you are able to prove the related theorems.

Maybe you are looking to qualify for the AIME, but math competitions can turn out be an obsession when you get deeply involved in them and then securing highest marks becomes a wonderful challenge.

However, there are tips that might help you do well in AMC Math Competition:

Define your Goal

Now, a student looking to score 150 in AMC is going to have a different way of training if compared with someone looking just to get through AIME. Therefore, it becomes necessary to know your goals, thereafter preparing accordingly.

Thorough Preparation

It completely depends on your level of aptitude, which can be further determined by solving the previous papers of the Olympiad which you are aiming for. However, some of the effective ways include:

  1. Practice Old Tests: All the math contests need a source of questions, and many times the same pattern of questions appear over and over again. Remember, AMC returns to the same question types year after year.
  2. Join Math Contests or Series: What is the best way to get good at something? Well, doing it again and again can help you master the concepts. You would be surprised to know that there are hell lots of contests going on, and you can gain a rich experience entering the math contests.
  3. Test Yourself: Just a few weeks before your examination, try to work on timed sessions of old tests. Make it as true to the actual test experience as possible. This will make you identify how long or short is the test and how can you manage your speed accordingly.
  4. Get a Good Sleep: Remember, a tired brain is not as efficient as a well-rested brain. Therefore, you should take a good sleep before appearing for your competitive exam.

Don’t be Afraid of Success

Just because you never qualified for AMC Math Competition, it does not mean that this can’t be your year. Someone has to it every year, and you also hold as much chance as the kid last year. Do not let any random gust to distract you from your goal and you only need to worry about what actually you can do.

Parents, help your child to find out what your child is good at, and aid your child to cultivate his interest. Look out for the specific areas that your ward struggles with and take notice when your ward achieves even the smallest of the accomplishment.
