5 Basic Guidelines to Properly Store Wine Bottles

Wine is a fine beverage and if you want to fully enjoy it then you need to handle it properly. Whether you are buying wine from a supermarket or you are buying vintage you need to store it properly. Avoiding Light:

Light and wine are not good partners because light can negatively impact chemical reactions. The wine storage space should be away from the light so that you can preserve it. You should keep the wine bottles out of the light until you serve them. Direct light can affect the wine aging process. Even if the wine bottles are dark colored and they have the ability to absorb UV rays, keep them away from direct light. Direct light can give bad taste and smell to the beverage and make it undrinkable.

Right Storage Temperature:

Temperature is a crucial factor in keeping the wine in the best condition. Different types of wines have different storage temperature. If you are storing red and white wines in the same area then the storage temperature should be 54 F degrees. If the temperature is lower than 54 F then it will lower the aging process. If the storage temperature is higher than 75 F then it will oxidize wine and ruin it. It is important that storage temperature constant because inconsistency is not good for aging.

The Humidity Level:

If the humidity level of wine storage is too high then it can lead to mold growth. If the humidity is too low then it will dry out the cork and make them crack. The crock of a wine bottle should stay intact because the cracks let the oxygen in. Oxygen ruins the aging process and completely changes the taste of the wine and not for the better. The humidity level should be around seventy percent to keep the corks moist and wine safe.

Isolated Storage:

The corks of the wine bottle breathe and they absorb surrounding odors. It is important that the wine bottles are stored in isolation. Keep them away from other food ingredients so that their small is not infused in wine.

Be Careful About Over Aging:

Aging helps in improving the quality of the wine but remember that aging is not good for all wines. If you have low priced wines that are young then their taste will not improve with aging. If you only buy high-end red wines then you can age them for two to ten years to enjoy the better taste. Majority of white wines age well for two to three years but there are certain vintage options that can age for more than twenty years.
