How To Rank Your Old Content For New Keywords?

Do you think that the top 5 or 10 pages of your website drive a large portion of your search traffic? That’s right. Sometimes that percentage might not seem like a big number, but few pages of your website make up most of your search traffic. When you talk about relatively smaller sites, the percentages tend to be much higher. Do you know what that means? It means that you should not only concentrate more on the top 10 pages of the website but also the rest of your content.

Always go for quality; quantity can be adjusted:

You must still be heard around how some things are only better when they are more regardless of what quality that thing holds. Some people publish 3 – 4 articles per day, 14 – 16 articles per week – what does that tell you? You spend most of your time writing without realizing that most of the content you have been publishing has never ranked. Your traffic will grow but not much. You should work on your outdated content to give a boost to your traffic and side by side, post new content at a time. In this way, your content will stay fresh and the updating of your old content will improve your search traffic.

Search for the most popular content:

With the help of Google Search Console, you can get access to data for up to 16 months. You should compare those results with the ones of the previous year and then search for articles or pages that once got a lot of traffic but don’t get it anymore. Select an older date range, find out which articles have dropped over that period and use it to see which old articles you want to rank better. This will ultimately show you’re the content that was once the most popular for Google.

While looking for content that Google used to prefer the most, don’t forget to search for unpopular content.

Search for unpopular content:

Search for pages that Google never liked. Go through Google Search Console and find pages which even though have great impressions, never got real clicks. You can do so by setting the date range to the previous 28 days and then view every page’s metrics, be it from any perspective – the click, impression, or the CTR. Pages that occur on top of the list hold more value and potential which means that you aren’t getting a lot of real links but Google continues to rank you.

Updating old content:

Now that you have a number of pages you need to fix so that your Google search engine rankings are given a boost, you should log back in Search Console, look for that article and click on the queries tab. For keywords that fail to make it up to the top 5 or lack a greater impression volume, you should go to that ranking article and look for yourself whether the article is suitable for that term or not. If it isn’t, try to make adjustments to the article to involve the particular term and cover the topic.

Promotion of your content:

You must be thinking why it is so important for you to promote old content. That’s because it is not old now. Make sure to update the last updated date or the published date in your WordPress. By doing so, Google search engines will know that your content is now more relevant, adjusted and up to date. Share your article with everybody, post it on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or Twitter; whatever social media platforms you use.

Build links:

Last but not least, remember to build links. The PBN blog post will help you in ranking higher in the Google Search engines. You can make use of backlinks to keep an eye on whoever is making links to the competing articles.
