How To Put My Synthetic Grass Like A Pro?

1: Generalities on laying an artificial lawn

The way to lay synthetic grass is the same regardless of the nature of the soil. Only will change the way to fix it. In all cases, soil preparation is a very important step that should not be neglected. Whether it is a garden, a terrace, a patio, and a pool edge … a synthetic grass must be placed on a hard and smooth floor.

The choice of suitable equipment to fix this grass on a perfectly prepared ground (glue nails or staples) will impose itself according to the type of support.

2: Preparation of the ground

Preparation of loose soil

To install an artificial turf that will challenge the weather on loose soil (soil/sand / etc.), the whole problem comes down to a question: How to perfectly level and compact the soil that will be under my artificial lawn?

Weed

The most important thing is still the ground preparation. It is necessary that the whole surface is perfectly treated: Muddy, grassy, stony, whatever the aspect of your ground, we must first weed. The experience of our teams allowed us to release a perfectly effective protocol: we recommend three passages of weed killer at one-week intervals. This procedure is the assurance that no more small shoot (of those who have the strength to pierce the tar of our roads) will try to raise your lawn.

Level

When the situation is right, we advise you to remodel the terrain with the same material. This is to perform a slight scarification on 2cm to the tiller or the hoe to decay the ground on a short thickness and break small imperfections. The dirt collected on the bumps is used to fill the holes. Without any external input, the nature of the soil remains homogeneous. Thus, you do not touch the work of time that has hardened the soil of your land deep to make it a compact surface. Your job will be to slightly loosen the surface keeping the natural forms of the ground. To finish, a vibrating plate will close the pores of the earth by packing it under its 90 kg.

Laying the geotextile

Put this coating between the ground and the artificial turf. Its main purpose is to prevent weed regrowth through the drainage holes in your lawn. The strips of geotextile must be stretched on the ground and fastened with nails. Remember to provide an overlap of at least 10 cm between each strip of geotextile.

Preparation of hard floors

Concrete floors, wooden terraces, parquet floors, tiles, plastic floors, paving are at first sight easy. However, do not neglect the preparation.

Make sure the surfaces are clean. Dust jet or better, the Karcher, so as to remove dust but also moss and mold… Scrape the bumps, even the small ones.

On concrete, do not hesitate to use a light patching to fill the hollows, to make disappear the bumps, to correct if necessary the slopes of evacuation and to make disappear the possible flashes so that the rainwater does not stagnate.

On wood, sanding is not necessary, but make sure that the surface does not have any irregularities that could cause your artificial grass coating to wobble.

On paving, fix the wavy slabs, replace or fill the hole left by those missing,

To summarize, remove hollow and bumps … and clean conscientiously… Or if you want to know more about artificial grass you must have to visit here.

3: Laying the grass

Cutting and installation

Strand direction and direction of laying

By unrolling a new synthetic turf, all strands are lying in one direction. When laying it is imperative to respect the direction of the strands: all the junctions, both longitudinal and vertical must be made by positioning each roll so that the strands of the tape that you are about to lay are lying in the same meaning as those of the previous band.

Cutouts

In general, a synthetic turf is cut with a very good cutter and always on the backside, latex side. In order to make invisible junctions, your longitudinal cuts will be between two lines of seams. On a new lawn, you will notice at the edge, a band without wires. You will need to emerge the turf, that is to say, remove this band by cutting between two lines of seams.

Installation

Unwind the grass at the starting point of your surface to be treated by pressing on a straight edge such as a wall or a terrace. To ensure a good starting point, it is important that you read Chapter 1 of this guide.

Make the different cuts by folding the turf. Between each cut of lee, you will have to make a perfect junction edge with the neighboring lee. Repeat until you completely cover your surface.

Joining junctions

For each joint, fold the two grass strips together and place a strip of pre-glue in the center, along with the entire length. The sticky part should be pointing upwards. Remove the protective paper from the tape and join the two strips perfectly.

Fixation

Before setting your lawn on the ground, let it “find its place” by giving it time to expand and shrink away from temperature for a few hours.

In general, fixation is always on the periphery, never in the middle.

Fixation on losing ground

For fastening turf on soft ground, we recommend carpenter nails in non-galvanized steel. These will rust in the ground and ensure perfect adhesion. Staples (or hooks), which are often presented in the trade as the ideal method of attachment, have two disadvantages. On the one hand, because they are stainless, they remain smooth and can stand on the soft ground. On the other hand, their U-shape draws on the lawn small strokes of unsightly shine.

Plant nails at regular intervals along the edge of the artificial lawn surface (the grass must be attached to the ground only at the outer edge).

Fixing on hard ground

On hard surfaces (concrete, wood, paving etc. …), we glue the outer periphery, making sure to leave a few passages for water between the glue point where there are flows. On some hard floors (wood for example), you can sometimes choose to staple the grass. The rule remains the same: stapling is done on the edge of the lawn.

4: Brushing and finishing

Use a construction brush (with long, hard bristles) and brush the grass to lift the flattened strands and give it a natural look. This brushing will also remove the cut son as well as any impurities.
