Can Botox Reverse Wrinkles?

Almost every spur and skin clinic offers Botox injection as a remedy for eliminating facial wrinkles. But before you go for this procedure, it’s vital for you to know what it can and can’t do. Opting only for Botox will make you look like a carpenter with only a hammer in their toolbox. To get optimal results, you may also need to go for melasma treatment.

Unfortunately, most young women under the age of thirty are rushing for Botox injections to prevent wrinkles from forming on their skins. Dermatologists don’t recommend this because these women have sufficient thickness and volume of facial skin. Before answering whether Botox can reverse wrinkles, it’s essential to understand the different types of wrinkles.

Some common wrinkle types that women wish to reverse include;

  1. Compression Wrinkles

These are wrinkles that appear on the chest, neck, and face. Your sleep position often causes chest wrinkles. If you like sleeping on your stomach, your face will be pushed into your pillow, thus causing premature wrinkles.

  1. Expression Wrinkles

Just as the name suggests, they appear when you laugh, smile, or show other expressions. They’re most prominent between the brows, around the mouth, and the eyes’ outer corners. They are created when the muscles in these areas contract.

  1. Atrophic Wrinkles

These are the fine lines that appear on your forehead when your face is at a resting position. They’re caused by loss of elastin and collagen and occur as you age. Unlike the other wrinkles, atrophic wrinkles form more noticeable wrinkles.

Can Botox Reverse Wrinkles?

Some health experts agree that Botox can help deep combat wrinkles because of the relaxing effect that they cause on the skin muscles. Your skin will begin thinning and losing its volume at thirty years. This is the right time to start Botox treatment. Don’t wait until the creases have become deeply imprinted because that may impede the treatment.

After forty years, some patients who used Botox reported that it didn’t help them erase their wrinkles. If you already have deep lines, this treatment will only freeze your facial muscles and prevent them from contracting. So the earlier you get it, the better.

Botox treatments may be a little painful because it includes injections. Some individuals who undergo this treatment report that this injection can be more intense than a mosquito bite. However, the pain will only last for one hour.

After a Botox treatment, there are some things you can’t do immediately. For example, your doctor will advise you not to take blood-thinning medication like ibuprofen, lie down, or exercise for about six hours. Engaging in these activities may increase bruising at the injection points. You may also have to keep your head leveled for about two hours.

Other Treatments That You May Use Alongside Botox

To achieve the best results, your doctor may advise you also to use other forms of treatment. Fortunately, most of them are simple treatments. After taking the needed time required to recover from your Botox injection, you can continue using your sunscreen.

Sunscreens protect against discoloration, loss of elasticity, and wrinkling. They’ll also protect your skin from UV light radiation. Ensure you always apply sunscreen having thirty SPF alongside your Botox treatment. Using retinoids, antioxidants, and eating healthy meals can also help you to get the best results.

The Bottom Line

Botox can reverse wrinkles, but it’ll depend on when you go for treatment. If you start using it in your mid-20s, you’re likely to get the best results, while if you use it after your 40s, it may not help you much.
