CAT 2020 Cutoff criteria-Things Everyone Knows About That You Don’t

Are you looking for information regarding the cat 2020 exam cut off conducted on 29th November, 2020? If yes, this article will provide you with the entire CAT and cat exam cutoff information.

Eligibility Criteria

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based examination that opens doors for post-graduate programs in management.

A person with a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 50% marks (5% relaxation to  candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories) or equivalent CGPA, awarded by an institution or university recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, is eligible to appear  for the CAT exam. Even those who are in the final year of undergraduate can apply for this test.

Each student is assigned a workstation at the examination centre. These examination centres for CAT are spread across 156 cities.

Reservation Slots

There is a 15% reservation for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates as per the law. The other backward categories (OBC) get a reservation of 27% of the seats, and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates get 10% of the seats.

Syllabus and Paper Pattern

The CAT does not have a characterized syllabus to prepare for the exam. The paper is divided into three sections –

  1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
  3. Quantitative Ability

The test comprises a combination of both MCQ, as well as non-MCQ questions. For the MCQ questions, each wrong answer will get a -1 mark, but there won’t be any negative marking for the non-MCQ questions. The total time given for the exam is 120 minutes; 40 minutes are allotted to each section of the CAT exam. The candidates under the PwD category are given extra 13 minutes and 20 seconds for each section.

CAT 2020 exam cut off

The cat exam cutoff list is not declared yet; however, the list will be available on the website soon. The cat exam cut off usually goes around 95 to 99 CAT percentile. The CAT result will be declared by the second week of January 2021.

Selection Process

The list of shortlisted applicants for the next round of selection will be made accessible on the website of the individual IIMs. The interview stage might differ for every IIM. It may include Personal Interviews, Written Ability Test, and Group Discussion. The cat exam cut off for different IIMs may also vary.

Calculation of CAT score percentile

For calculating the overall percentile, as well as the sectional percentile of the candidates, consider the QA section as an illustration.

Step 1: Calculation of the total candidates who appeared (N) for CAT examination (from all shifts).

Step 2: Assigning them ranks (r), as per scaled scores for the QA.

When 2 or more aspirants get similar scaled scores, identical ranks are assigned to all such candidates. For example, when 2 candidates get the highest scores (scaled scores), they will have the same rank of 1.

Step 3:  The candidate’s percentile (P) of rank (r) in the CAT QA section will be –
???? = 404 clip image002-BMH x 100

Step 4: The percentile (P) so calculated is round off up to 2 decimal points. So if P is equal to or greater than 99.995, then it will be rounded off as 100. But if P is equal or greater than 99. 985 but any less than 99.995, it will be 99.99.

A similar approach is used in calculating the score of VARC and DILR sections and the calculation of the overall percentile.
