The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series Switches are business-class lines of stacking and standalone switches, respectively. These switches provide high availability, scalability, security, energy efficiency, and simple operation with innovative features like IEEE Power over Ethernet Plus configurations, optional network modules, redundant power supplies, and media access control security. The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X improves productivity by enabling applications like IP telephony, wireless, and video for a borderless network experience.
The Catalyst 3750-X series with StackWise Plus technology provides scalability, ease of management, and investment protection for changing business needs. Cisco Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X improve productivity by enabling applications like IP telephony, wireless, and video for a borderless network experience.
Catalyst 3750-X Series Software Features
In addition to the IP Base and IP Services feature sets, the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series includes a new set of LAN Base features. The three feature sets available with all Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series Switches are:
LAN Base – Enterprise Access Layer 2 Switching Features
IP Base – Reference Enterprise Access Layer 3 Switching Features
IP services– advanced Layer 3 switching features (IPv4 and IPv6)
The LAN Base feature set includes comprehensive Layer 2 features, with up to 255 VLANs. The IP Base feature set provides basic business services in addition to all the features of the Base LAN, with 1K VLANs. IP Base also includes support for routed access, StackPower, MACsec, and the new Cisco Service Module. The IP Services feature set provides comprehensive business services including advanced Layer 3 features such as Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM), and IPv6 routings such as OSPFv3 and EIGRPv6. All software feature sets support advanced security, QoS, and management features.
Customers can transparently upgrade the software feature set on Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series Switches by enabling Cisco IOS® Software. Software activation authorizes and enables the Cisco IOS Software feature sets. Cisco IOS software examines a special file on the switch, called a license file when the switch is powered on. Depending on the type of license, the Cisco IOS software enables the appropriate feature set. License types can be changed or updated to activate a different set of features.
Cisco StackWise Plus Technology
Cisco StackWise Plus technology is predicated on the successful industry-leading StackWise technology, which may be a premium stacking architecture optimized for GbE. StackWise technology was designed to respond to additions, removals, and redeployment while maintaining consistent performance. The stack behaves as a single switching unit managed by a master switch chosen from one of the member switches. The main switch automatically creates and updates all switching and optional routing tables. A working stack can accept new members or remove old ones without interrupting service. StackWise creates one highly resilient unified system of up to nine switches, providing simplified management employing a single IP address, one telnet session, one command-line interface (CLI), automatic version checking, auto-configuration, and more. StackWise Plus supports all StackWise features and provides backward compatibility with existing Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series switches while improving system performance up to 64 Gbps. StackWise Plus also enables local switching on Cisco Catalyst 3750-X series switches. Locally switched packets entering a port on the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X series or 3750-E series switch destined for an additional port on an equivalent switch don’t need to traverse the stack ring, increasing the forwarding capacity of the switch. The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series stacks up to nine switches as a single logical unit for a total of 432 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with 18 10GbE ports. The individual 10/100/1000 units can be linked in any combination to evolve with the needs of the network.
Cisco StackPower Technology
Cisco StackPower Technology The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X series features Cisco StackPower technology, an innovative power interconnect system that permits power supplies during a stack to be shared as a standard resource among all switches. Cisco StackPower unifies the individual power supplies installed within the switches and creates an influence pool, directing that power where it’s needed. This feature is available on all feature sets of the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X * series switches. Up to four switches can be configured in a StackPower stack with the special connector on the back of the switch using the StackPower cable **, which is different from StackWise cables.
StackPower can be deployed in power swap mode or in redundancy mode. In power distribution mode, power from all power supplies within the stack is aggregated and distributed among the switches within the stack. In redundant mode, when the total battery power budget is calculated, the wattage of the largest power supply is not included. That power is held in reserve and used to maintain power to connected switches and devices when a power source fails, allowing the network to operate without interruption. Upon failure of a power supply, StackPower mode becomes power-sharing
StackPower allows customers to simply add an additional power supply to any switch in the stack and provide power redundancy for any member of the stack or simply add more power to the shared pool. StackPower eliminates the need for an external redundant power supply or the installation of dual power supplies across all members of the stack.
Switch Configurations
All switch models can be configured with four optional network modules. UPOE, PoE +, and non-PoE switch models are available with the LAN Base or IP Base feature set. The IP Services feature set is available as an upgrade option at the time of order or via license at a later time. GE’s SFP switch models are available with an IP Base or IP Services feature set.
