Whether you’re particularly religious or not, Easter is a wonderful time of year that many of us look forward to. After all, what’s not to love? Chocolate, longer days, sunshine, roast dinners and every shade of pastel you could wish for!
Usually, Easter is a time for family, but with the current COVID-19 restrictions still firmly in place (albeit slightly more relaxed as of 29 March 2021) many students living in student accommodation in Ormskirk are opting to spend their Easter holidays away from home.
So, if like many others, you will be tucking into Easter eggs in your student room this year, here are some creative ways you can spend the time off from your studies – guaranteed to keep the homesickness at bay.
#1 Keep it traditional in the kitchen
When it comes to Easter time, there are two foods synonymous with the holiday – chocolate (of course) and Sunday roast. And just because you’re not sitting around the family table passing the roast potatoes, doesn’t mean you can’t still indulge in traditional meals during this time.
This is a great idea if you’re spending the Easter break with people you share your student accommodation in Ormskirk with. Go together for the group food shop, cook it together over a glass of wine or a beer and eat together – just like you would at home!
Even if you’re spending the holiday alone, you can still treat yourself to a tasty roast dinner (remember to make leftovers for the next day – or two!) and get yourself some chocolate eggs or snacks to accompany those cosy movie nights. Dreamy.
#2 Make it international
It isn’t uncommon to share your student accommodation in Ormskirk with international students, and with Easter traditions differing from one country to the next, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate an international Easter!
Not only will doing something like this give you an opportunity to get to know your flat mates and their culture better, but it’s also much more fun! Whether it’s the Easter Bilby of Australia or the famous Easter omelettes of France – there are so many cultures to experience.
#3 Virtual Easter
As we know, Zoom and Facetime have become an everyday part of lockdown life since March 2020 and even as restrictions ease, there’s no sign that these popular apps will become less necessary.
Although Zoom has become synonymous with boring business calls, there’s no reason why you can’t use the platform for a virtual Easter with friends or family from back home! Of course, phone calls are great, but if you want to see your loved ones and make your Easter feel as homely as possible, then why not gather your egg haul, get cosy in a blanket and fire up the webcam to have a nice long face to face (kind of) chat with loved ones?
Whilst Easter alone or with people you may not be completely familiar with can be a daunting prospect – it doesn’t have to be!
