The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission came into existence in the year 1929. Earlier it was known as the Madras Public Service Commission. The name Tamil Nadu PSC was re-named in the year 1970.
Article 316 to 319 of the constitution of India deals with the structure of Public Service Commission in India. In the very early time, the department was headed by a Chairman and comprises of 14 other members. At the present time, the headcount of the TNPSC department is near to 400 people.
