When you are running a company you want it to run the best that it can. While there are always some rough patches and road bumps it is important to show that you care for your company as a whole.
You may not know where to start or you may have started but need some more ideas on what to do next. Either way your company needs to start thinking about their impact and how they treat their customers and employees.
Here are 5 things to consider when creating a caring company culture:
Have a Good Relationship with Your Employees
This is the first thing that you will want to do when you start a company. If you do not have a great relationship with your managers or employees, they will not stay for a long time and they will not be excited about coming to work.
The best rule of thumb to use is to understand that your employees are human too. They have families, friends and even a life outside of work. They will get sick, get stuck in traffic and may even experience a flat tire. Be understanding and use empathy when working with your employees.
Think About Community Outreach
If you feel like everything within your company is running well and your relationships are strong, it may be time to start thinking about community outreach. This is a great way to show that you care not just about your employees and company but also the community where your job is located or even the community of your customers.
This can be something as simple as donating money to a local charity or supporting a local school with a fundraiser. Look at your community and see where you can make a difference.
Be Aware of Your Company’s Impact
Your company actually impacts a lot of different companies and communities on a daily basis. Think about the paper products that you use, the food you may get for your employees and even the computers that you use.
Look at the companies that you use. There are companies that are extremely transparent. Look at doTERRA and their co impact sourcing, which tells the consumer where the products are from and how they are processed. Choose companies that are transparent and willing to show you how they get their products. This can help keep the earth a little cleaner when you use companies that are responsible.
Make Sure Your Employees Have Time Off
There are a lot of reasons why you should let your employees have time off. Some companies even have mandatory vacations for their employees when they have finished their first 6 months or even at their year mark.
Most companies give their employees some amount of time off. This usually doesn’t give them enough time off for the whole entire year. This can eventually lead to burn out. Your employees will not be as productive if they are stressed out and tired all of the time. If they are working overtime this will lead to more stress and possibly meltdowns. Keep your employees happy and healthy by letting them have enough time off.
Build Trust with Your Employees
There are certain ways to establish trust with your employees. This is not going to happen over night, especially if there have been power struggles in the past or if there has been micromanaging in the past.
What you will not want to do is to keep micromanaging your employees. This includes looking over their shoulders constantly, walking past their desks frequently and having HR talk to those who went over by 2 minutes on their lunch break.
There are a lot of different ways to show that your company cares whether that is improving employee relationships or reaching outside the company into your community. What are some ways you like to show that you care as a company? Comment below to start the conversation!
