Adding a swing set to the home playground can cheer up your kids. This way, you can also ensure the kids remain in your visible range. However, it is also imperative to assure that the arena your kids play in remains safe.
A report by Consumer Product Safety Commission says around 51,000 children are admitted to hospitals every year just because they somehow got injured at home playgrounds. Thus, when you set up a swing set, it is not only essential to confirm that they are safe, but also need to be regularly maintained for a risk-free use. Hence, you can also opt for wooden swing sets. They will reduce any likelihood of mishaps or untoward incidents with their sturdy build.
Appropriate Set-Up
First, you need to select an area that is reasonably clean and free of any debris to set the swing. It should also be free of any sharp log of wood, holes or any material that can harm the kids. Make sure that the land under the swing is soft enough to support your kids if they fall. You can spread a mat for a soft landing. You can also create a false surface with sand, sawdust or pea gravel up to 12 inches deep.
Now, while buying a swing, make sure its size is appropriate to suit your kids’ age. It should not be too high from the ground. It should also provide a sufficient gap between the swing bed and the ground for smooth mobility. Also, make sure the hinges are fit in safely to absorb any pressure exerted while the kids jump in and out of it.
As for the swing material, a wooden swing made of teakwood can be a perfect match. It would provide security and comfort to your children while they play. Also, they are durable; so you don’t need to worry about them wearing out anytime soon. So, bring a teakwood swing, set it up safely. Now, paint it in bright colours to set a playful mood for your kids.
A Regular Maintenance
After you have installed the swing safely and put it to use, you also need to keep it maintained for a prolonged and risk-free use. As swings get older, they depreciate and may develop cracks that can weaken them. Without regular maintenance, they can pose serious threat instead of providing enjoyment.
Here are ways to keep them in proper shape:
- Regularly inspect the swing for any sign of wear and tear on the wood.
- If it develops a crack anywhere, fix it with the help of a carpenter.
- Make sure to keep its hinges tight at all times.
- Keep the swing covered at all times to reduce any effect of moisture and sunlight.
- Paint from time to time, so that termites don’t make it their home.
Besides, your kids’ safety is your top priority. Do not think twice before replacing it if you have an instinct that it has debilitated beyond its repairing capacities.
Thus, with the above-given measures, you can not only select a right swing set but also keep it safe for your kids’ use.
