Practical And Affordable Methods To Keep Your Gas Stove Looking Like New.

It is a well known open secret about the popularity of gas stoves amongst chefs and foodies alike but also with ordinary folk looking to cook delicious dishes while saving on their electricity bills. Their efficiency, ease of cleaning and elegance are preferred by homeowners over that of conventional electric stoves. They want to combine their love for cooking with the need for a functional kitchen.

Why Cook With A Gas Stove?

The most significant benefit of cooking on a gas stove is its responsiveness. With a gas burner, a twist of the knob releases the heat immediately allowing to make instant changes in heat while cooking, as the flame does not require time to warm up or cool down like electric stoves. Moreover, you stand a better chance of mastering the art of cooking as you have more control over the meals you prepare.

No one on an empty stomach has the patience to wait for hours for their food to be ready. With a gas stove that is not the case. The flames of a gas stove spread themselves evenly along the bottom and sides of pan or pot ensuring your food is cooked evenly and faster on an open fire.

One of the most popular benefits of using a gas stove is that it is a cheaper option, as using a gas stove will cost you approximately 10% to 30% less than operating electric stoves. Gas stoves provide an elegant aesthetic look to your kitchen and come in a range of designs to choose from such as enamel, glass and stainless steel.

As much as you look like a gourmet chef, cleaning up afterwards is not the most exciting thing to do. Grime and leftover cooking debris are not only an eyesore and unhygienic, but they also impact negatively on your cooking and pose as a fire hazard. Gas stoves require regular maintenance to avoid costly repairs, and so that they function efficiently.

In an ideal world, cleaning your stove can be done by a few simple wipe downs. The last thing you want is to leave your family or guests at the dinner table to begin the struggle of scrubbing your stove clean. Before you go on a hunt for a gas stove for sale, we have compiled a list of practical methods of how to keep your stove looking as good as new;

  1. Clean With Vinegar.

If you want to reduce your reliance on chemicals to clean your gas stove, vinegar is a perfect alternative as it quickly gets rid of light greasy stains and is suitable for day to day maintenance.

To clean your stove with vinegar, you will need to:

  • Spray your cooker with vinegar and allow it to settle for 10-15 minutes.
  • Use a clean cloth to wipe it clean.
  • As simple as that, your grates should look clean and shiny.
  • Keep in mind that vinegar is more effective in cutting through grease and grime before it settles in.
  1. Clean With Baking Soda.

You probably thought baking soda was only good for baking? Well, it is an affordable and eco-friendly cleaning agent when it comes to removing stubborn grease and grime stains.

Cleaning your stove with baking soda, you will need you to:

  • Use warm water and dishwashing detergent to scrub off the initial film of grease.
  • Add some water to a cup of baking soda to create a thick paste.
  • Use the paste to coat each burner and leave it for 20 minutes, so it lifts the grease.
  • Scrub the softened food residue thoroughly using a sponge.
  1. For Tougher Stains on Burner Grates, Use Ammonia.

If vinegar and baking soda do not lift the tough stains, it is time to bring in the reinforcements. Ammonia is a more effective cleaning agent in removing baked-in grease and food residue on burner grates.

This is how you unleash the power of ammonia on dirt:

  • Put each burner grate into individual zip lock bags.
  • Add one-quarter of a cup of undiluted liquid ammonia. Remember to wear protective rubber gloves.
  • Close the zip bags and let it sit for several nights or overnight. It will allow the ammonia to dissolve and lift the baked in grime from the enameled iron.
  • Leave the bags outside to avoid leaving a strong smell in the kitchen and inhaling harmful fumes.
  • Remove them from the bag, wipe them off and marvel at your shiny burners.

Do Not Forget To Clean Stove Drip Pans.

Before you take off those rubber gloves and have a glass of lemonade, do not forget to clean your drip pans. Burnt oil, herbs and vegetable pieces collect under the grates and to make them shine again; you can follow these simple methods:

  1. Clean By Soaking.

To get your pans clean and shining, all you need is some dishwashing detergent and baking soda.

  • Remove the pans for your stove and thoroughly rinse them in the sink.
  • Add one part dishwashing detergent and one part baking soda and later the mixtures over the pans.
  • Put the soapy pans in ziplock bags for an hour and after that, rinse them thoroughly.
  1. Clean By Boiling.

If you have tougher grease build up on your stove, you can try boiling them.

  • Mix some water with half a cup of baking soda in a large pot.
  • Heat it until it boils before reducing the heat. Place the pans inside the pot.
  • Leave them in boiling water for at least 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove the pans from the boiling water, using tongs, and allow them to cool down to room temperature before you wipe them down.
