Precognition and Its Various Dimensions

The term precognition has its roots inLatin and is derived from the term pre which means “prior to” and Cognito meaning “to gain Knowledge”.  Therefore, precognition can be considered as the ability to have knowledge about what would happen in the future before it actually happens.  In psychological terms, it is believed to be the ability to perceive events before it happens through Extrasensory perception or clairvoyance.

Precognition definition

Precognition is defined as the specialized knowledge of a future event, especially when this comes from a direct message to the mind, like in a dream rather than by reason. According to the precognition definition, you can understand that there is a possibility to have precognitive dreams which help you to know what would happen in the future.

What is a precognitive dream and what is not?

As the precognition definition suggests even precognitive dreams have to be ones that appear to predict future. But, it has to be through a sixth sense.  Let us consider an example.  Lucy had a dream that she is pregnant. This is confirmed by the doctors a month later. You cannot consider this to be a precognitive dream or psychic dream because Lucy had access to a number of unconscious signals that her body would have been showing. Experiencing certain physical signs and additionally, he has the knowledge that she is trying to conceive etc. Hence this dream could only be considered as an intuitive dream and not a paranormal or psychic dream. The psychic dreams are hard to prove but they have got to feature totally unpredictable information about the future, especially involving other persons more than yourself.

Types of Precognitive dreams

 The types include

  • Symbolic precognitive dream– this is considered to be a low-grade precognitive dream that is extremely difficult to be identified as a precognitive dream. This is because of the abstract nature of the dream that is generally not realized until the event actually occurs. That is when the symbols in the dream are matched to the event only when it actually happens.
  • Literal precognitive dream–  this refers to the dream that includes what you sense to think and feel being actualized in the future tense.
  • 3rd person precognitive dream– This refers to both symbolic and literal similarities that a dream could take on. But most of the times the information that is being observed might not occur from the first-person point of view.

A somewhat similar type of dream that occurs in the awake state and the dreamer realizing that he is dreaming is called lucid precognitive dreams. this is again of two types which include Active and Ambient dreams.

Precognitive empath

This is another dimension of precognition and refers to persons who have the gift of future vision by birth or is developing the ability by practicing or succeeding in opening up the mind to extrasensory perception.  They are the ones who are drawn towards healing and other holistic therapies.

To sum up, You may safely conclude that there does exist a relationship between dreams and reality. The precognitive dreams can be considered as a real programming language and it is effective in directing the organized thoughts to co-create an objective reality using subjective paradigms. But, to develop the psychic ability and to be able to interpret what is being conveyed you need faith, an open mind, and patience.
