Understanding of Struts in Building Construction

Strut channels are industry-graded or standard structural systems used in commercial buildings or construction. The power struts are primarily used for delivering excellent support to electrical or light structures in buildings. The support is mainly for plumbing, mechanical, and wiring elements, like HVAC and air conditioning systems. Commercial building constructions in the USA include power strut channels because of the multiple options available for easily interlinking different items to the struts, mainly using strut-related bolts and fasteners.

Why Use in Construction?

One of the advantages of using power strut channels in the construction industry is the quick and easy assembly with limited tools. Furthermore, it doesn’t require skilled or highly-trained laborers to initiate the assembling process. Thus, using strut channels in construction is cost-effective, as the costs are curtailed in several sector applications. In addition, the installation of a strut channel can be included or excluded as the need may be.

Unlike custom steel fabrication, power struts don’t require extensive bolting and drilling. Struts used in construction help to strengthen the floor system of the building. Moreover, they deliver a lengthwise solid direction support, keeping electrical fixture components separate from each other, giving additional strength, and balance to the building.

Materials Used in Struts

A power strut is made from metal sheets, mainly stainless steel and aluminum alloy, and a powder coat, epoxy, zinc paint or coat, and other finish. Aluminum alloy struts are avoided because weight becomes the biggest challenge. In the present era, more and more power struts are made from fiberglass because it is known for its lightweightedness and strength. Moreover, fiberglass is corrosion-resistant, unlike stainless steel, where rusting can be challenging, especially outdoors, and electrical fixtures with other corrosive metals or materials. Power struts feature holes in the base region to ease the connection or secure the struts beneath the construction structures.

Applications of Strut Channels

There are multiple uses of power strut channels in the construction sector. They stabilize, support, mount, and link lightweight structural loads in commercial constructions. They include data and electrical wires, pipes, air conditioning, ventilation, and other mechanical components. Things can be attached to the power strut channel with the help of fasteners and bolts equipped with springs for hassle-free setup. Pipes, cables, and other circular items can be interlinked with the help of shaped-end straps. Furthermore, struts are also used in shelving systems, equipment racks, workbenches, etc., applications that demand a rigid framework.

Conclusion

Struts channels refer to a group of weaved rods and metal channels that offer mounted support to electrical fixtures in commercial buildings. The most significant advantage of using power struts in commercial construction buildings is their quick and hassle-free interconnection using strut-specific bolts and fasteners. The use of minimal equipment and cost-effective labor can significantly reduce expenses. Strut fitting structures can also serve as a track for wiring and offer support for lighting systems and utility fixtures in commercial buildings.
