Mobile phones are a must-have in today’s life. People from all walks and parts of life opt to keep phones as per their requirements and class. If we rewind back 2 decades ago, just having a phone was a dream of many. At that time only the elites could afford to keep a mobile phone. The evolution of mobile phones came with the invention of smartphones. Many competitors came in this field to offer their brands but the top 2 leaders in this run came out to be iPhone and Samsung. iPhone and Samsung Galaxy were and even still going head to head with their ever-evolving new models and technology.
Throughout the history of mankind, people had different views about any technological invention. At times superstitious believes came into defying an invention. The same was and even is the case with mobile phones. We know, everything has its pros and cons but it is inevitable to say that mobile phones have all the ills. Let’s just discuss a few of the misconceptions about mobile phones.
Mobile phones are time-consuming
Mobile phones have made people less social
Mobile phones have reduced the market of different hardware companies
Mobile phones have increased the expenses of the people
Mobile phones have taken screen time more than any other digital device
Do you agree with above mentioned misunderstood myths about mobile phones? I am sure you won’t. Now let’s just talk about the above-mentioned points one by one.
Mobile phones are time-consuming
Yes, this statement is true to some extent but it does not mean it is time-consuming only. Rather most people spend time on mobile to learn something new or to get themselves informed about the news and technology.
Mobile phones have made people less social
This statement otherwise does not suit well. Since mobile phones have made the whole world a global village. Everyone is connected with each other through different social media apps and platforms, so saying mobile phones have made people less social does not suit much.
Mobile phones have reduced the market of different hardware companies
Most people argue that mobile phones come with an inbuilt clock, camera, calculator, GPS, torch, etc. Thus they have caused the decrease in sales of wristwatches, cameras, calculators, GPS, etc. However, to some extent it is true but even then those who are fond of gadgets do buy most of the expensive items. Rather mobile phones have made it easier for users to access everything in a single gadget.
Mobile phones have increased the expenses of the people
Jokes apart! but does mobile phones really have increased the expenses of the users? I say no! Because it depends on the wish rather than the need of the user. As people only have to pay for the airtime which they intend to use. There are people who just spend about 100 or so but at the same time, there are people who spend 1000s. So it all depends on the need to use as per the requirement.
Mobile phones have taken screen time more than any other digital device
Yes, they do have but here I again have to say that it is not the mobile phone which has taken the screen time. Rather it is subject to the user’s interest. Mobile phones provide a source of time pass for those who have plenty of time to spend but no one to spend with. So for those, mobile phones are the best way to kill time. They contain an ocean of information, news, entertainment, and much more for the users. However, people who have other priorities like book reading or any other specific hobby to work upon, do not spend much of the time on screen. So this myth again stands incorrect as it is not the mobile phone which has taken the screen time of the user rather it is the user who prioritizes his timetable.
To conclude with, I would say that as everything has its merits and demerits, the same way mobile phones have their merits and demerits. It all depends on the user and the way he intends to use a mobile phone or even any other device or gadget. Throughout the history of mankind, people had different views about any technological invention. At times superstitious believes came into defying an invention. The same was and even is the case with mobile phones. We know, everything has its pros and cons but it is inevitable to say that mobile phones have all the ills.
