The most basic materials that are used in daily life consist of multiple layers with different functions. Paper products, films, and adhesive tapes have functional coatings.
Here, are some of the advantages and disadvantages of a hot melt adhesive coating machine.
Pros
1. Stability
The machine is not affected by changes in humidity and temperature. It eliminates the inherent adhesive peeling problem and enhancing bonding fastness.
2. The hot melt machine does not have water or other fluxes
The solids are made into films, strips, pellets, and blocks. It is easy to store and transport. It is also easy to use and eliminates waste and damage.
3. It can be repeatedly bonded and melted
The hot melt adhesive machine can be reheated for bonding operations. It has special process requirements components that are suitable for bonding. An example of these components is the restoration of some cultural relics.
4. Environmental-friendly
It is a 100% coating method. It does not carry the adhesive to the substrate by using solvents. The solvents are burned or reclaimed to avoid harmful pollution.
5. Cost
The cost of this machine is a fraction of solvent-based coaters and conventional water. Due to their sizes, the machines do not require expensive mitigation systems or large drying tunnels.
6. Compact
The footprint of the machine is smaller than solvent-based coaters and conventional water.
7. Enhances efficiency
This machine offers improvement in every aspect of the coating application process or industrial adhesive. It is a perfect alternative for solved-based and water-based versions in terms of space. Additionally, it produces less waste.
The independent elements and dynamics used are few hence lower operational costs.
· Flexibility, good bonding strength, and fast curing speed
The hot melt adhesive coating machine can bond and cure within a few seconds in time. It has the characteristic of bonding when cold and melting when heated.
Packers use hot melt adhesives to increase production and higher-speed production lines. It reduces defective products which are convenient for automated and continuous high-speed operations. It also cuts on costs.
Galvanised steel can last long without much maintenance but they are quite vulnerable to dents and can rust. For alleviating risks, you must use at least 25 gauge steel with a fibreglass coating.
Vinyl is extremely hard to break but not available in more than two or three coloursand designs. Apart from being quite cost-effective, it could also be installed without any sort of professional help.
Cons
- It reduces the size of a structure
Since there is no need for a powered drying element in solvent-less or water-less machines, the overall size of the structure is reduced. The powered drying creates condensation and exhaust which must be dealt with accordingly. The exhaust is harmful adding increased complexity to its disposal.
- Bonding is affected by seasons and climates
Sometimes when using this machine, it affects bonding due to the change in seasons and climates. The curing is slower in summer while the wettability is poor in winter. When the wind is strong, the melting time is shortened.
- The bad effect when coating by hand
The effect of coating by hand is not good. It is difficult to control the waste of rubber.
- Limitations in performance
Some of the limitations in performance that are caused by this machine include;
- Limited bonding strength
- Poor chemical resistance
- Insufficient heat resistance
